The Lancet study shows that over 7 lakh people die in India because of abnormal temperatures. Some 1.7 million Indians died due to air pollution in 2019, according to another report by interdisciplinary journal Lancet Planetary Health.
Despite these facts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi pledged at the COP26 UN climate conference in Glasgow that India will achieve net-zero emissions by 2070.
